Add an Activity

The PALS office would love to add ideas from Virginia teachers to our instructional pages. If we choose your activity, we'll put your name, and your school's name right on the page that explains the activity! You'll be sharing your ideas with teachers all across the state!

Here's how to send your great idea to PALS:

  1. Identify which category your activity falls into. Choose from one of the following:
    • Alphabet Recognition
    • Beginning Sounds
    • Blending
    • Comprehension
    • Concept of Word
    • Letter Sounds
    • Oral Reading in Context and Fluency
    • Print Knowledge
    • Rhyme
    • Sound-to-Letter Segmentation
    • Spelling
    • Vocabulary
    • Word Recognition
    • Writing
  2. Write your instructional activity using the following format:

Be sure to describe the procedures as clearly as you can.
    • Activity name:
    • Materials needed:
    • Procedures:
  3. Write the Virginia SOL number that is related to this activity.
  4. Enclose your materials in an envelope (including a copy of any pictures, stencils, or sheets needed to carry out your idea) and send it to:

    Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS)
    853 W. Main Street, Suite 104
    P.O. Box 800785
    Charlottesville, Virginia 22908-8785

Be sure to include your name, your school's name, and a phone number where we can reach you! Because of the quantity of materials we are likely to receive, we will be unable to return the original materials to you. Please make a copy before you send your packet.

Thanks so much!
